Human-in-the-loop

What is a Human-in-the-loop?

Human-in-the-loop (HITL) is a design where people review, approve or correct an AI system's work at defined points, for example checking low-confidence document extractions or taking over a conversation the agent can't resolve.

HITL lets businesses automate most of a process while keeping control of exceptions and regulated decisions.

Corrections made by reviewers are also valuable data for improving the system.

Examples

  • Review queue for uncertain invoice fields
  • Warm transfer from a voice agent to staff
  • Manager approval of AI-drafted emails
